Though raised on a musical diet of Mowtown, Disco, Jazz & Orchestral music coming from the South Wales Valleys my only avenue for music was playing cornet in a local brass band. A Welsh cliche but it began to form me as a musician.

I moved into the Orchestral and pit band world before leaving to study a B.A.Hons degree in music. A forced switch from Trumpet to Bass, due to an assault that damaged my upper lip just after graduating at the age of 21, was the serendipitous catapult for my professional musical career. Then to cutting my teeth on bass with a Bristol Punk band that toured the U.K. and beyond before gaining my first signed artist session with the immensely talented and prolific singer/songwriter Judie Tzuke.

From that moment I was in constant work touring and recording with names such as Mark Owen (Take That), Bailey Tzuke, Amy Macdonald, One eskimO, Lucie Silvas and most recently Kylie Minogue. I’ve had the pleasure of also playing on stage with Chris Martin (Coldplay), Nick Cave, Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Candi Staton, Jessie Ware, Tove Lo, Bebe Rexha, Anitta, Tebey, Tim Hicks, Beverly Knight, Steve Craddock (Ocean Colour Scene), Suggs (Maddness), Kristian Leontiou, Rick Astley, Gareth Gates, Charlie Worsham, Peter Starsted, Michael Franti, Bob Schneider, Toya Wilcox, Ray Cooper and many others.

Whilst still a “gun for hire” musician I also joined the band One eskimO, highlights including playing on; the Ellen Degeneres Show 3 times, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Jay Leno Show, touring with Tori Amos, Gomez, winning a FMBQ AAA award for best song of 2010 and most prestigiously knocking Pearl Jam of their number one spot to gain a U.S. #1 on the AAA charts. We also had the great privilege of playing many of the most renowned musical theatres, venues and concert halls of the United States. (click here).

My discography includes 2 multiplatinum albums; George Ezra’s “Staying at Tamara’s” (horns) and “This is the life” by Amy Macdonald (bass and horns) and “A Curious Thing” which gained platinum.

In my 30’s I took a sabbatical from touring to teach though I continued recording bass and arranging brass for studio sessions. As a musical tutor for Cardiff County and the Vale of Glamorgan’s Music Service I taught individual students, whole class tuition, ensembles, rock band, iPad orchestra and teaching children with special educational needs.
